Head and shoulders

Three peaks with the tallest one in the middle

In detail

The pattern shows a tall central peak flanked by two lower ones. It tends to appear where a rising market runs out of strength, and once price breaks the line drawn through the troughs, more participants read the top as in place. Flipped upside down it is called an inverse head and shoulders. A complete-looking shape still guarantees nothing.

Example

Peaks at 1,100, 1,300 and 1,120 followed by a break of the 1,000 trough line.
