Double top

Two peaks at about the same level, showing heavy resistance

In detail

A double top is two peaks at roughly the same price, read as a sign that buyers cannot push higher. The pattern is usually considered complete once price falls below the low between the two peaks. The mirror image, two troughs, is a double bottom. Patterns are named in hindsight, so calling one early invites being caught the other way.

Example

Two stalls at 1,500 followed by a break below the 1,300 low completes the pattern.
