GDP (Gross Domestic Product)

The total value a country produces in a period

In detail

GDP adds up the value newly created inside a country over a period. How much it grew from the previous period is the growth rate, the broadest gauge of whether the economy is doing well. While it expands, company revenue tends to expand too, and share prices price that in ahead of time. First estimates are revised later, so the number often moves.

Example

GDP growing 1.5% from a year earlier means the country produced 1.5% more.
