Year-to-date high and low

The highest and lowest prices since the start of the year

In detail

The year-to-date high is the highest price since the first trading day of the year, and the year-to-date low the lowest. To avoid depending on the calendar, the 52-week high and low, counted over the last 52 weeks, are also widely used. When a stock makes a new high, some read it as having no sellers waiting above, while others see it as overheated; the same number is read in different ways.

Example

A stock that opened the year at $800 and reached $1,200 in June sets a new year-to-date high when it trades at $1,250.
