The won losing value, and the won gaining value
A weak won means the won has lost value; a strong won means it has gained. Moving from 1,400 to 1,500 won per dollar is a weaker won, because more won are needed to buy the same dollar. A weak won lifts the profits of Korean exporters while making Korea's imported materials and travel abroad from Korea dearer. The confusing part is that the larger number means the weaker won.
1,400 to 1,500 won per dollar is a weaker won; 1,400 to 1,300 is a stronger one.
