Tax-handled account

An account where the broker does the tax arithmetic

In detail

In Japan a tokutei account has the broker total up a year of trading gains and losses for you. Choose withholding and tax is deducted as gains occur, so no tax return is normally needed. Choose no withholding and you file yourself from the annual statement. It is separate from a NISA account, where gains are not taxed at all.

Example

On a gain of ¥2,000 taxed at about 20%, roughly ¥1,600 is left.
