Shareholder

Someone who owns stock — a part-owner

In detail

A shareholder holds rights in proportion to the number of shares owned. There are three main ones: voting at the shareholders' meeting, receiving dividends, and sharing in whatever assets remain if the company is wound up. The more shares you hold, the larger those rights.

Example

One voting share is one vote at the shareholders' meeting. Hold 100 shares and you cast 100 votes.
