Order book

Every resting order, listed by price

In detail

The order book shows how many shares are waiting to buy or sell at each price. Trading happens between the highest bid and the lowest offer. Where orders stack up thickly you can trade near the price you want; where the book is thin, a modest order moves the price a long way.

Example

With 3,000 shares bid at $999 and only 200 offered at $1,001, a market buy of 1,000 shares pushes the price up.
