Buy or sell now, at whatever the price is
A market order names no price — it says buy or sell at whatever is available. It jumps ahead of limit orders and almost always fills, but in a thinly traded stock it can fill at a far worse price than you expected. Use it when getting filled matters more than the price.
With 100 shares offered at $1,000 and 500 at $1,050, a market buy of 300 fills 100 at $1,000 and 200 at $1,050.
