Nikkei 225

The average price of 225 leading Japanese stocks

In detail

The Nikkei 225 takes 225 representative companies listed on the Tokyo Prime market and averages their adjusted prices. Because it averages prices rather than weighting by size, high-priced stocks move it more. It is published by Nikkei Inc. and is the figure most often quoted for the Japanese market.

Example

A move from 38,000 to 38,380 is a gain of 380 ÷ 38,000 = 1.0%.
