Early wind-up

Closing a fund and returning the money before its term ends

In detail

When a fund grows too small to run, or something else makes it unworkable, it is wound up. Cash comes back at that day's price, so it counts as a sale even if the market is down. A plan to hold for years simply stops there.

Example

Some funds state they will wind up if assets fall below $30 million.
