Price coming back to cover the space it jumped over
The blank left between yesterday's close and today's open is closed as the price returns to it. It does not always happen, but enough people watch for it that it works as a marker. Large gaps on earnings often never fill at all.
Jumping from $1,000 to $1,100 and later returning to $1,000 fills the gap.
