Large-cap and small-cap stocks

Stocks grouped by the size of their market capitalization

In detail

Large-cap, mid-cap and small-cap describe stocks by the size of their market capitalization. Where the lines fall differs between index providers and fund managers; there is no single standard. Large caps trade heavily and tend to move more calmly, while small caps trade less and can move sharply on a single piece of news.

Example

A company worth $10 trillion is usually called large-cap; one worth $30 billion is usually called small-cap.
