Income gain

Money that arrives just for holding

In detail

Income gain is what an asset pays you for holding it โ€” for stocks, the dividend. Unlike a capital gain, it arrives whether or not the price moves. But dividends are the company's decision: they can be cut or stopped, so they are never guaranteed.

Example

A 3% yield on a $10,000 position pays $300 a year before tax, even if the price never moves.
