FOMC

The meeting where the US sets its policy rate

In detail

The FOMC is the meeting at which the Federal Reserve, the United States central bank, sets the policy rate. It meets eight times a year and publishes both the decision and participants' rate projections. Because global money moves around the dollar, shares and currencies worldwide swing on the outcome. Trading often goes quiet just before the release and jumps right after.

Example

The FOMC meets 8 times a year, roughly every six weeks.
